The elaborate entrance gates to Chirk Castle are dated 1719 and bear the coat of arms of The Myddelton family of Chirk Castle. They were made by the Davies Brothers, Robert and John, renowned blacksmiths of Croesfoel Forge, near Bersham, Wrexham and were erected between 1719 and 1721. Originally white in colour, they were painted black during World War II, and have only recently been reinstated to their original colour.
