Private Sector Housing Standards
- Responsible for regulating and licensing living accommodation to improve standards in the private sector.
- The team deals mainly with the private rented sector, but occasionally intervenes with owner occupied property.
Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
- A risk-based evaluation tool to help local authorities identify and protect against potential risks and hazards to health and safety from any deficiencies identified in dwellings.

- The owner will normally be responsible for carrying out essential repairs, including the structure, and for maintaining essential services such as water, gas and electricity supplies, automatic fire detection and for drainage. A tenant is normally only responsible for decorating the property internally, looking after the property and maintaining any gardens.

Most landlords do carry out repairs once they know about them. However, if your landlord fails to carry out the repairs after a reasonable period of time, you should contact Environmental Health and Housing Standards on email@example.com or on 01978 292040.
Harassment and Illegal Eviction
- Illegal Eviction and Harassment are criminal offences and the maximum penalty in a Crown Court is an unlimited fine and two years’ imprisonment.
- The correct legal procedure a landlord must follow to require a tenant to leave will vary according to the type of tenancy. In most cases, tenants will be entitled to a Notice to Quit.
- If an illegal eviction is imminent or taking place, contact the police if you believe there may be a breach of the peace, and Environmental Health and Housing Standards on 01978 292040 – a Public Protection Officer may be able to attend.
- If you are being harassed or have been served with an invalid Notice to Quit (external link), contact Housing Options on 01978 292947.
- If you consider that you have been harassed or illegally evicted, you should keep a careful note of all incidents and inform the Council, who will try to resolve the dispute and consider if a prosecution is appropriate. This evidence may be needed should any case go to Court.

Residential Park Homes
- Residential Park Homes - ‘Park home’ is the common name for a residential mobile home situated on a site licensed by the local authority for residential use.
- When making an application for a UK Visa (external link), the sponsor or applicant will be required to provide evidence that the proposed accommodation (external link) will be adequate.
- You must complete an application form and include the relevant documents. There is currently no charge for this service, however this is under review.
Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas
- In order to protect the special character and appearance of a Conservation Area, stricter planning controls exist.
- Listed Buildings are considered to be of special architectural or historic interest. This means that not only is your listed building important to you, but it is also important to your local community and contributes to the cultural heritage of Wales.
